Subscribers Text Counter – New WordPress Plugin

I would like to announce that my new WordPress plugin is available to download. It is “Subscribers Text Counter”. This plugin creates very easy to customize “Feedburner rss subscribers” and “twitter followers” text counters. You may see sample widget created with this plugin on top of my right sidebar.

With this plugin you won’t need any more slow, ugly and boring third party counters! This plugin use your database to cache the counter values so it load very fast.

Plugin has been released under GPL license so it is free to use. You may download it and read more about it on this page.

I would like to make a special thanks to Antti Kokkonen aka Zemalf for making a blog post that have inspired me to write this plugin. Some code (most viral for this plugin) is based on his post.

Would you be so kind to share?

  • Hi,
when I try to activate the plugin I get:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘{‘ in …/wp-content/plugins/subscribers-text-counter/subscribers-text-counter.php on line 76.

    Any clue?

  • That’s great man. I will give it try just now and will also tweet it.

    • Thanks. Now there is a new version with Facebook Fans counter available to download as well. Soon I will release version with post shortcodes and template functions to fit any blog design.

  • so many articles about this new word press plugin, looks lie everyone enjoys it :))

  • Hey KreCi,

Great plugin, exactly what I’ve been looking for, for a while.

1 little problem with entering the title for the widget though… whenever there is an apostrophe in the titled it inserts a forward slash.

    Don’t becomes Don/’t.

And if I used the escaped text & #39; it doesn’t convert to the apostrophe, any ideas?

  • What happened to the plug-ins homepage? I get a 404 Not Found error when trying to access the page.

I do have a problem getting the links to work in the widget area. The %twitterlink% (and the other %XXXXlink%) just gets substituted for nothing.
And I have hit the counter refresh button in the settings page.

    Anybody else have this problem?

    • Hello, thank you for heads up! Webpage is back online.

Please tell me what version of plugin/Wordpress do you use.

      • I am using the latest 1.5.4 and I have configured all Twitter, Facebook and feedburner fields in the settings page.

Apparently I can not post HTML tags in this comment so I have to explain what I have done. I do not think I did anything strange though.
In the widget area I have used all four icons but removed the counters as I do not have any followers yet. In the href tags I have kept the %facebooklink%, %twitterlink%, etc.

In the html on the web page I get empty hrefs like this:
        href=”"

I really like the look of your plugin. Too bad I can not make it work.

Any ideas of debugging would be appreciated.

  • I haven’t tried. I installed the previous version of the plug-in but when I was going to configure it I got the message that there was a new version so I hit the automatic upgrade before I configured it.

The server at the hosting company that I use have PHP 5.2.12 (according to phpinfo()

  • I found a bug for you!
If there are no followers, fans or readers the %XXXXlink% tag doesn’t work.
I happened to get one reader on feedburner and my feedburner link started to work. I then added myself as a follower on twitter and the twitter link started to work :)

  • I just installed the plugin and got it to work with my twitter and feedburner accts. but having a problem with facebook…I have an API key but no “secret”….

    • Secret was on the same page as API key (second field). If you have not copied it and don’t know where to find it, you may remove your Facebook application and create another one.
